With snow drifts like these and a thick white blanket covering the land we decided to bring a big rainbow indoors to help us through the gray days. The light is lengthening and we are finally beginning to feel the lingering sunlight in the afternoons (when it isn’t snowing, that is). Our rainbow will help us to catch that light (or so I was told).
“Donde termina el arco iris, en tu alma o en el horizonte?”
(Where does the rainbow end, in your soul or on the horizon?”
- Pablo Neruda, The Book of Questions
I used a small stash of silk pieces (thicker, textured silk) and with another pair of little hands for help, sewed them up and hemmed the edges a little. We hung it up just to test out how it would go (I still have a big ironing job ahead of me, and perhaps a wee bit more hemming). It’s long and lovely and goes from the top of one window frame to the doorframe where 100 year old glass sliding doors used to sit to separate the parlor from the dining room. Once upon a time.
